Redevelopment and new development / completed 2003
Central Stockholm / For Skanska
This total redevelopment and extension of a block built in the early 1970s has become a model for how run-down central complexes can be transformed into a well-lit urban venue with shops and restaurants, modern office premises and newly developed apartments on the roof. The massive block was divided and reconfigured into smaller units to fit in better with its inner-city setting. The largest block was divided into two sections. Two new triangular buildings were added with a new glazed central interior. Three storeys of apartments were built on the roof, all of them with roof terraces and striking views across the city. In 2003 the project was awarded the ROT prize and Skanska’s environmental prize and was also nominated Redevelopment of the Year.
